A partnership between Angelo Gaja and Alberto Graci on the southern slope of Mount Etna. Volcanic soils, high-altitude vineyards, and a focus on Sicily's indigenous varieties — Carricante for white, Nerello Mascalese for red.
Organic practices. Etna DOC. "Idda" — she in Sicilian dialect — refers to the volcano herself.
Angelo Gaja's Tuscan estate in Bolgheri, acquired in 1996 after eighteen rounds of negotiation — the name means "house of endless negotiation" in Piedmontese. Bordeaux varieties planted on coastal terroir.
Organic practices. Bolgheri's maritime climate and gravelly clay-rich soils. A modern, international expression from the Gaja family.
Gaja's Montalcino estate, acquired in 1994. Two single-vineyard crus — Rennina and Sugarille — flank the classic estate Brunello. Sangiovese in its most age-worthy expression.
Organic practices. Brunello di Montalcino DOCG. Aged 24 months in oak, then 6 months in concrete vats. Built for the long cellar.
The original family estate, founded 1859 in Barbaresco. Five generations have shaped what Nebbiolo means in modern Italy. Angelo Gaja's daughters — Gaia, Rossana, and son Giovanni — now steward the winery.
Organic practices. The benchmark for Langhe and Barbaresco. Gaia & Rey was Italy's first benchmark Chardonnay, planted in 1979.
